Ejectors and Hot Water Temperatures

During a service call on a sewage wastewater ejector pump system, our technician noticed that the water in the pit was hot. After further investigation, the facilities personnel informed the technician that the hot water condensate return system was not functioning properly and the hot condensate was being bypassed into the wastewater pit. For fluid handling equipment not specified for high temperature water use, this can be very corrosive and damaging to the system. In addition, the original floats used in the system were not specified for hot water use. Lastly, the control panel running this system was over 25 years old and had been modified and rewired by others over the years and was not electrically safe.

Phil Murray, Gustavo Preston Outside Sales Rep, evaluated the system and suggested replacing the suspended ejector pumps, floats and control panel. The new Weil wastewater ejector system was specified for high temperature applications with the floats. The new Weil control panel had BACNET capabilities that allowed the panel to be tied into their building management system. The old control panel did not have the capability to alert other than an audible alarm in the room when water levels were too high.

It is always important to understand your application perimeters when selecting fluid handling equipment. When handling high temperature water or any corrosive fluids, it is crucial to select fluid handling equipment that is appropriate for the application.
